How to Pick an Engagement Ring?

How to Pick an Engagement Ring?

Nobody tells you how overwhelming this actually is. You walk into a store and someone hands you a loupe and starts explaining clarity grades while you're quietly panicking about budget and wondering whether your partner will even like this style.

Here's what actually matters, in rough order:

Shape first. Round cuts are the most popular for a reason they handle light well and look good in most settings. But if your partner wears a lot of vintage-style jewellery, consider oval or cushion. If they're more minimalist, maybe emerald cut. Shape is personal. Get it right.

Then setting. A solitaire on a thin band makes the stone look bigger. A halo adds drama but also bulk. Pavé side stones add sparkle but more maintenance.

Then the stone. With natural diamonds, your budget goes about 60–70% further than with lab-grown diamonds. A 1.5ct lab-grown in a good cut and clarity will look better than a 0.9ct mined stone at the same price. That's just math.

Cut matters more than any other of the 4Cs. A poorly cut diamond in high clarity still looks dull. A well-cut stone in slightly lower clarity looks alive.
